When it comes to yoga, you would be surprised what yoga, common scents, and essential oils can do for you. If you feel like you need a little pick-me-up for your mood or just need to be soothed, you can select which essential oil scents work best for you. Top reasons to use essential oils:
- to relax and unwind
- to improve your mood
- to improve your health
- it is safer than using candles
Essential oils have several uses where you can use them to include:
- in your home/work/car
- internally and externally
- as a spray
- in combination with other oils or water
Make sure to read the directions that come with the oils. To make sure the correct combination and strength, are properly used for the respective purpose. Mixing the oil with a carrier oil (such as almond oil) might be required to be used on externally on your skin. Diffusing oil requires water to be used. Believe me, I have used one, too, many drops when diffusing oil and the smell was overpowering. So be mindful of using, too, much!
I have most commonly used oils by diffusing them in my home or in a yoga class to set the mood. A cool damp wash cloth covering your eyes while smelling a hint of essential oils is super relaxing after a yoga class. The most common scents I use are lavender, lemongrass or lemon grass, and peppermint.
Lavender to help ease your mood, if you get overwhelmed or stressed. Lavender can help to maintain a relaxed mood. It can also freshen the air. You can mix lavender and lemongrass to add a citrus scent. The peppermint scent can help pep up your senses, mood, and energy. More recently I have been diffusing oils, it is quick and easy to do.
When selecting and diffusing oils:
- make sure you like the scent
- find a diffuser for your space
- follow the instructions provided for the oil and diffuser
- use the appropriate amount of oil for your space
Smaller spaces require less amount of oil. You can decide what works or smells the best. Selecting a scent depends on your choice and need. There is a range of scents to include:
- fruity
- floral
- minty
- earthy
Scents might be subtle and others unfamiliar and not so great smelling! They might not smell so nice, yet do wonders to improve your (internal or external/skin) health or mood. Also, some scents you might not like can be mixed with other scents to help enjoy them and their purpose more.
