SURPRISE, the first suggestion is (non-see-through) yoga pants or leggings! They are typically thought of when doing yoga.
- More recently pants are available in looser fit and cotton styles.
- If you want to wear shorts, I suggest they be long enough and not, too, loose to keep you from being exposed in certain poses.
- Two things to expose are your feet, let them be free! If you prefer socks, that is up to you. You might notice it is easier not to wear socks, though
- Bring a long-sleeved shirt to use during the beginning and end of my practice. Because the room might be cooler than expected and as I get warmed up I am comfortable to take off my long sleeve (and be in my tank top). Also, at the end of traditional or some practices, the corpse (an amazing resting pose) is more enjoyed with something covering your body like a towel on your eyes and a blanket or a long-sleeved shirt covering your body. I sometimes even use one of the sleeves of my sweatshirt to cover my eyes.
As a reminder yoga is about you, so wear what you find comfortable to allow you to move freely. As you take classes you will notice how your body temperature reacts to the poses or the room temperature in the space you are in. For example, taking a Hatha yoga class in a tank top allows for some coolness when your body temperature builds from holding poses. My go-to for most yoga classes is a tank top since it allows me to move comfortably while doing yoga.
