Well, it’s not all about the mat, yoga is mainly about you. How you go about practicing yoga is up to you. And yes, the mat can add value to your comfort in the poses.

1.  For example, a thinner mat with a smooth surface can greatly assist during balancing poses, such as half-moon, tree, or eagle. If you have two mats, you can stack them for extra padding.

2.  Thicker mats help cushion your wrists or tailbone in the multiple pose variations of down dog or boat.

3.  Key care tips include not applying lotions or oils to your hands or feet before using your mat and cleaning after each use.

Mostly, I have experienced using the standard-sized mat of 68 inches long and 1/8” thick foam and rubber-made mats. I started with and periodically use my thin mat. I have learned to appreciate and use slightly thicker mats. My suggestion for the best go-to yoga mat will allow those new to yoga to get started and seasoned yogis to continue their practice. This suggestion will also benefit those who prefer a thicker mat to add more cushion during their yoga practice.
